Tobias Meinecke is an award winning screenwriter - director - producer based in New York City and Berlin. 

Dedicated to character-driven storytelling that equally illuminates the human condition and entertains, he has three television series and six feature films in development, financing or pre-production. His magical road-movie / love-story EVIE’S APPLE - co-written with screenwriter Jay C. Key and based on a story by Key - is targeting a Fall 2018 production with partial funding in place. He is about to start on his first documentary WHAT I LEARNED FROM MY MASTER, about a directing workshop Academy Award winning director Milos Forman taught at Columbia University.

After completing degrees in directing, screenwriting and producing at Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film (Munich, Germany) and Columbia University School of The Arts (New York City), Tobias began his career working in New York's independent cinema.

His first feature film THE CONTENDERS won Best Comedy at the Houston International Filmfestival (1993), was in competition in Rotterdam and Montreal film festivals (1993) and an official selection in Berlin (1994).

His first short film THE SUPER, adapted from a graphic novel by legendary comic artist WILL EISNER, was praised by NY critics as 'a ferocious, perfect little work' and 'a stunner' and had a successful theatrical run at the FILM FORUM NY (1992).

He produced (with Susannah Lee) the short film DREAMS OF LOVE, staring Claire Danes, written and directed by Jeffrey Mueller, and directed the German made-for-television movie LIEBLING, VERGISS DIE SOCKEN NICHT, staring Henry Hübchen for TV Channel Pro7 and producers Clausen+Wöbke (based on a bestseller by Maeve Haran).

Following his early works in narrative film and television, Tobias moved his career into television commercials with a focus on beauty and story-telling. Between 1993 - 2009 he directed over 60 television commercials for blue chip clients such as Coca-Cola, P&G Prestige, Wella, Henkel, Schwarzkopf, Ferrero and others, working on locations around the globe: India, South-East Asia, Africa, Caribbeans, Eastern and Western Europe.

In 2001 Tobias launched e'topia and e'topia scribes.lab, a creative production company, with which he has since developed (with David Scharfenberg) and written or co-written (with David Weaver, David Krell, Jay C. Key, William David Myers and others) a full slate of feature screenplays, television concepts and pilot scripts ready for production.

His most important influences are his teachers from Columbia University and HFF Munich: Milos Forman (directing), Michael Hausman (producing), Igor Luther (cinematography), Lewis Cole (screenwriting) and June Stein (acting).
